Remembering B.J. “Doc” Noel — A True Pillar of Our Community

It is with deep sadness after hearing the passing of B.J. “Doc” Noel, former President of the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce and a cherished figure in our community. For 17 years, Doc dedicated himself to the growth, success, and unity of Hampton and the Seacoast region. His leadership was transformative, and his impact, immeasurable.

When Doc first stepped into the role of Chamber President, it was meant to be temporary. But what followed was nearly two decades of steady leadership, innovative thinking, and a genuine love for the people he served. Under his guidance, the Chamber grew stronger in every sense, financially, structurally, and in spirit. He championed local businesses, expanded regional partnerships, and played a major role in shaping the Chamber into the force it is today.

One of Doc’s greatest legacies is the evolution of the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival. Thanks to his vision and hard work, what began small blossomed into a beloved, large-scale celebration that brings joy to tens of thousands every year. He also helped unite chambers from across the region through the Seacoast Chamber Alliance — creating stronger ties and new opportunities for collaboration among communities.



But beyond the titles and milestones, Doc was known for his warmth, humor, and ability to connect with everyone. He believed in showing up — day after day, year after year — for the people and the place he loved. He led with kindness, earned the respect of all who worked with him, and never lost sight of the bigger picture: building a better, more vibrant Seacoast.

On behalf of the entire Chamber family and the countless lives he touched, we extend our deepest gratitude. Thank you, Doc, for your vision, your heart, and your legacy.

You will be missed, but never forgotten.

REMEMBERING DOC FROM THE CHAMBER STAFF

This week, we have heard over and over, “ I’ll never forget the first time I met Doc”. With every person he met, he left a lasting impression. Each person regales their memory of Doc with a bright smile on their face, and often a hearty laugh. 

Colleen~ I’ll never forget the first time I met Doc. John had just hired me to be the Director of Events and Marketing at the Chamber, but there was one event already fully planned. It was the Annual Dinner and Retirement Party for past Chamber President Doc Noel. There was a lot of excitement around the event and when I met Doc I understood why. Although he had just retired from the Chamber, he came in my office to greet me. His laugh, wise words, and funny jokes where endearing. I looked forward to seeing Doc at Chamber events and always at Hampton Beach Seafood Festival. There was no way to keep a smile from your face when Doc was around.

Rusty~ I had the pleasure of knowing Doc since before he joined the chamber as the president. His infectious smile and sharp wit had always positively impacted those around him. When he brought me on board in 2017, he expressed some reservations about my commitment, fearing that my deep involvement in the community might distract me from my responsibilities at the Chamber. However, after just a year, he acknowledged that hiring me was a wise decision. I am truly grateful to Doc for his belief in me and for the invaluable friendship that had flourished as a result. Thank you, Doc, I will miss you my friend.
