My message this month is a little different than usual because I want to share with you again for the 3rd time how important it is for us to hear from you on the recent developments around tariffs and nonprofit grant freezes and the possible impact that they may have on your business or non profit agency. As a result of my first two attempts to gather information, I heard from some of you that responded that there would be a major negative impact if the White House follows through with their action steps after this (30) day pause. One group of responses were from the beach lodging members where they reported a growing number of cancellations from our Canadian visitors due to the uncertainty of a Canadian tariff increase. Will Tariffs (or a Federal Funding Freeze) Affect Your Business or Organization? Please Tell Us -
Last week the Hampton Area Chamber was invited to participate in a roundtable with NH Senator Shaheen to discuss the impact of possible tariffs and a federal funding freeze on local businesses/organizations. The Senator has asked our chamber to send feedback from our members.
If tariffs enacted against Canada & Mexico (or other countries) will directly impact your business (positive or negative), or a federal funding freeze, please email john@hamptonchamber.comand briefly explain how. If you prefer to be anonymous, we will not share your name/com.
To recap, both the tariffs against Canada and Mexico and the federal funding freeze that were presidential executive orders were rescinded pending a 30-day moratorium. Whether either or both will be re-enacted is uncertain. The Hampton Area Chamber is assisting in gathering information only if these orders may be implemented so that our members can be prepared. The Hampton Area Chamber does not endorse political parties. Our interest is in helping our members navigate changes in policy.
