This month I am sending you a "special message" highlighting what could of been a major negative impact on many of our members, especially those in the hospitality industry.  

Earlier this month, the NH House Finance Committee voted to cut $13.7 million dollars from the BEA - Travel & Tourism budget. For our Chamber and many of our industry partners, this would of been a major blow to our local economy .  

Governor Ayotte underscored her commitment to New Hampshire’s economy by including $13.7 million for the Division of Travel and Tourism Development (DTTD) in her proposed state budget. This strategic investment represents just 3.15% of the Meals and Rentals Tax, a revenue source largely paid by visitors, and is critical to supporting the state’s tourism economy, workforce, and local communities.

When the House Finance Committee removed that funding, Representative Bridle showed strong leadership on the House floor by introducing an amendment that fully restored the Governor’s proposed tourism budget. See his speech-click here. With strong bipartisan support, the amendment passed with 198 votes in favor - note all of our area representatives voted in favor, sending a powerful message that New Hampshire recognizes the vital role tourism plays in driving economic growth across the state. This funding is not just about marketing—it’ proven investment in bs, tax revenue, and sustaining the small businesses and communities that make New Hampshire special.

Tourism is one of the state’s leading industries, supporting over 70,000 jobs and generating over seven billion dollars in annual visitor spending. The Meals and Rentals Tax, fueled by tourism activity, directly supports municipalities and services across the Granite State.

As the budget process now moves to the Senate, we, along tourism leaders are hopeful that the upper chamber will build on this momentum and join the Governor and House in reaffirming tourism as a smart and essential investment in New Hampshire’s future.
